Breckenridge Code Enforcement Urges Residents to Properly Dispose of Grass Clippings

The City of Breckenridge sent out a friendly reminder for residents to help maintain clean, safe, and attractive neighborhoods by keeping properties mowed and free of excessive weeds.

Per City Ordinance Sec. 10-2 and Sec. 10-3, it is unlawful to allow grass, weeds, or uncultivated vegetation to exceed twelve (12) inches in height on average on private property or in areas adjacent to streets and sidewalks as outlined in the ordinance.

Properties found to be in violation may be subject to enforcement action and citations.

Additionally, residents and lawn care providers are reminded to avoid blowing grass clippings into streets, gutters, and roadways.

Grass clippings in the street can:

  • Clog storm drains and contribute to drainage issues

  • Create slick conditions for motorcycles, bicycles, and vehicles

  • Wash into waterways and impact water quality

  • Accumulate in cracks and joints of roadways, allowing grass and weeds to begin growing in the streets, which can contribute to pavement deterioration and increase maintenance needs

  • Add debris that impacts the overall appearance of our community

Please help by blowing clippings back into your yard, mulching them properly, or collecting and disposing of them appropriately.
